Importing From Withings
How to request your data archive from Withings and import your weight, body composition, height, and blood pressure into Kaizora.
Updated
Withings scales and blood pressure monitors keep your readings in your Withings account. Withings can email you an archive of all of it, a ZIP of CSV files, which Kaizora imports.
Request the Archive in the Withings App
The steps are the same on iPhone and Android:
- Open the Withings app and go to Profile.
- Tap the Settings icon at the top right.
- Tap Export All Health Data (older versions call it Download my data).
- Choose your user, if your account has several.
- Tap Start my archive.
Or on the Withings Website
Sign in to your Withings web dashboard, select your picture, then Settings, choose your user, and select Download my data.
Withings changes its menus from time to time. If these steps don’t match what you see, search Withings’ help centre for “exporting your data”.
Download It From the Email
Withings prepares the archive and emails you a link to download it. It usually arrives within minutes, but can take up to a day; check your spam folder if it doesn’t come. Download the ZIP to the device you’ll import on. The archive covers your whole history; there’s no choice of dates.
The ZIP holds one CSV file per kind of data. Kaizora reads three of them:
- weight.csv: weight, fat mass, muscle mass, and bone mass;
- height.csv: your height;
- bp.csv: blood pressure, with the heart rate the cuff took.
The other files, such as activity, sleep, and raw tracker data, are skipped for now. Values are in the units your Withings account is set to, kilograms or pounds for example, and are converted.
Import It
- Open Data Sources, from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Under Imports, find Withings Export and choose Import from file.
- Under File, choose the ZIP as it came, or just one of its CSV files.
- Check the Time Zone. The files give local times without a time zone, so Kaizora reads them in the zone you choose, yours by default. If you took your readings somewhere else, choose that zone.
- Select Import.
What Comes In
- From weight.csv: weight, fat mass, muscle mass, and bone mass. Withings’ muscle mass includes smooth muscle and the water in it, so Kaizora keeps it as total muscle mass, not skeletal muscle mass; its bone mass is the scale’s estimate of bone mineral content.
- From height.csv: your height.
- From bp.csv: each blood pressure reading, with the heart rate the cuff took.
Only what Withings recorded comes in: a blank cell is no value. Hydration, a mass of water, is skipped, since Kaizora records body water as a percentage.
Withings and Apple Health
If the Withings app also writes to Apple Health, import Withings directly first: once you have, Kaizora skips Withings’ copies in your Apple Health export, so a weigh-in doesn’t come in twice.
The Live Connection
A live connection that signs in to Withings once and then syncs every hour is coming; see Connect Withings for Live Sync. Until then, request a new archive and import it whenever you want your latest readings; readings you already have are updated, not duplicated.
If Something Goes Wrong
- No email: check your spam folder, wait a few hours, then request the archive again.
- The file is refused: make sure it’s the ZIP from Withings, or weight.csv, height.csv, or bp.csv from inside it, not a file you’ve opened and saved again in a spreadsheet app, which can change its dates.
- Times are off by some hours: on Data Sources, choose Delete data in Withings Export’s … menu, then import its files again with the right time zone. See Delete What a Source Brought In.
